Which piece should I choose?
We get asked the same question often: “Which piece should I choose?”
Many of you have asked that we thought it was time to put something together — a starting point, not a sales pitch. A way to think about the choice before you make it.
Because at Freya & Thor, a piece is never just a piece. Each collection carries a different meaning, drawn from Norse Mythology. The right gift isn’t the one that looks best in a photo. It’s the one that says what you actually mean.
Here’s how we’d think about it.
To say: “I love you”
The goddess Freya wept for the husband she was longing for — not from despair, but from devotion. Where her tears fell, they turned to gold.
This is the collection for partners, for anniversaries, for the people closest to you. It’s also, quietly, one of the most chosen gifts for someone to buy for themselves — a reminder of a love already found.
To say: “I believe in you”
The Lynx moves alone, and moves with certainty. In our mythology, it represents wisdom, independence, and quiet leadership.
Give this to the friend starting something new. The colleague stepping into a role she’s ready for. The woman who doesn’t need permission, but deserves to feel seen.
To say: “Stay strong”
Thor’s hammer, Mjölner, was never a weapon for its own sake. It was protection — for the people Thor cared about.
This collection suits someone facing something hard, or someone who’s already come through it. A milestone. A hard year. A reminder that they’re not carrying it alone.
To say: “Keep going”
The two goats that pull Thor’s chariot across the sky never stop moving, whatever the terrain.
For the person mid-journey — a new job, a recovery, a goal still in progress. Less a celebration of arriving, more a companion for the road there.
A few practical things, since it’s a gift
Min or Mid? Most of our collections come in two sizes — Min, the smaller, more delicate scale, and Mid, slightly larger and bolder. There’s no rule here, and we’ve seen both worn beautifully by anyone — but as a general pattern, Min tends to be chosen as a gift for her, Mid for him. If you’re unsure, think about the other jewelry the person already wears: someone drawn to finer, quieter pieces will likely lean Min; someone who prefers a bit more presence will likely lean Mid.
Sizing: for necklaces, we’d suggest measuring against a piece you (the gift receiver) already own and love the length of — a ruler or tape against an existing chain is the easiest way to get it right.
If you’re not sure: we offer a 90-day return window, deliberately generous, because we know many of these pieces are bought well before they’re given — and the person receiving it should be the one who decides if it’s right for them. And, should this be read before Christmas, You can also always check out the Yule post for extra inspiration.
Handmade, always: every piece is made here in Sweden, by hand, in small batches, from recycled sterling silver. Nothing is mass-produced — which also means some pieces, once gone, don’t come back.
